Food delivery driver robbed at knifepoint in South Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A woman is facing charges after she allegedly robbed a food delivery driver during a stop this week, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

According to the arrest affidavit, a delivery driver had just arrived at his next dropoff location on Hart Street when he was approached by a woman with red hair and tattoos. The man told officers the woman was holding a silver pocketknife with a wooden handle with black tape, and demanded he hand over his delivery. She would later be identified as 39-year-old Christina Sawyers.

The affidavit states Sawyers reached through the window of his car and took the food bag and wallet, which contained several bank cards and approximately $700 in cash.

Sawyers reportedly ran away, jumped into a waiting black Ford Focus, and fled the scene, according to the affidavit. The driver then followed the Focus in his car and told officers that he observed Sawyers jump out and run away at the intersection of Charles E. Davis Blvd. and Fain Street.

The driver said he continued to follow the Focus until he lost sight of it near Lafayette Street and 2nd Avenue South, so he called 911 around 4:15 p.m., the affidavit states.

MNPD officers located the Focus around 5:50 p.m. and pulled it over at 569 Charles E. Davis Blvd. Sawyers and the man who owned the car were inside and taken into custody.

The food delivery driver positively identified Sawyers as the woman who robbed him at knifepoint. A food delivery bag was also found in the Focus, according to the affidavit.

Sawyers was booked Tuesday night and charged with aggravated robbery with a weapon, as well as drug possession. She is being held on a $52,000 bond.
