
Dining in Rhode Island: An ode to the Ocean State’s food scene.
The light changes with the seasons, the temperatures go up and down, but dining excellence across the Ocean State is as consistent as the tides.
- The Providence Culinary Collective will feature a variety of food and drink events from March 27-30.
- Events include a beer garden, wine dinners, and a luncheon with wine pairings.
- There will also be a free event with local food vendors and live music.
The inaugural Providence Culinary Collective is a few weeks away, and the sponsoring Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau has announced more fun food and drink things to do. The events range from pop-ups that are budget-friendly to high-end wine dinners. They are to be held from Thursday, March 27 to Sunday, March 30, all in Providence.
Here’s what’s new.
The Culinary Collective Beer Garden will feature beers from Tilted Barn Brewery, Ravenous Brewing Company, Ragged Island Brewing Company, Trinity Brewhouse and Narragansett Brewery. The team at Durk’s Bar-B-Q will be selling their barbecue. The beer hall will be set up outside of Trinity Brewhouse on Adrian Hall Way from Thursday, March 27 to Sunday, March 30. The hours are 4 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. with live music on Sunday.
Mill’s Tavern, 101 North Main St., Providence, will host a five-course dining experience on Thursday, March 27 with Frederick Wildman and Sons, an importer offering wines from France, Italy and California. The cost is $150 with tax and gratuity additional. Courses include Citrus-Cured Hamachi Crudo, Lobster Risotto, Braised Rabbit Raviolo, Japanese Waygu beef and White Chocolate Mousse with basil pound cake. Call (401) 272-3331 to reserve.
Wine dinners
Other wine dinners include a four-course offering at Oberlin restaurant on Thursday with seatings starting at 6 p.m. The meal will be paired with wines from DuMOL’s 2022 vintage for a taste of Sonoma and the Russian River Valley. The cost is $150 and you can reserve online at oberlinrestaurant.com.
Cafe Nuovo has a wine dinner Friday night at 5:30, paired with Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars for $195 and you can purchase tickets on Eventbrite.
A Giro D’italia wine dinner at Sarto, featuring five courses and live entertainment, will be Friday night at 6 p.m. The cost is $100 for an aperitif cocktail upon arrival, hors d’ouevres and the five-course tasting menu. Optional wine pairings are available for an additional $50.
Still available are tickets for three special events.
“Ciao Italia’s” Mary Ann Esposito will be the star at “Uncorking the Future: A Culinary & Wine Experience” to benefit Rhode Island PBS and The Public’s Radio. It will be held at the WaterFire Center beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 28 with tickets $100, or $150 for early bird entrance at 5 p.m.
A Celebration of Jacques Pépin at CHOP will be held on Saturday, March 29 as culinary students from the Genesis Center present a globally-inspired menu. It’s at 6 p.m. at the restaurant at the Providence Public Library at 211 Washington St. Tickets are $200.
The Wine X Vinters Dinner with Spire Collection Wines at the Reserve on Dorrance, 60 Dorrance St., offers a five-course dinner paired with high-end domestic. Dinner ticket holders may also attend an after-event at the Bellini Rooftop. The cost is $225.
There is a free event on Thursday, March 27 from 4-7 p.m. Shop local and sample small bites at Foodcraft: An Evening of Global Flavors, Locally Made. Presented by Hope & Main at 100 Westminster St. with complimentary appetizers and one-of-a-kind specialty foods, live music and a cash bar. Stroll through the party, sampling complimentary appetizers from Rhode Island’s diverse food entrepreneurs, featuring delights like Guatemalan Chuchitos, Ethiopian Injera, Afghan nigella cookies, and classic American cheesecake ‒ all under one roof. Be among the first 100 guests to RSVP online and receive a free specialty cocktail at the door. Reserve for free online. On Friday, March 28 at 12:30, there will be a Bellini Rooftop luncheon paired with Jordan Winery’s Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon collections from Sonoma’s Alexander Valley. The cost is $120.
There’s a deal to be had with the Grand Tasting on Saturday, March 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s not just about all the samples from the many wineries, but also for the expert panels. They are Women in Wine, Sustainability in Wine and The New Era in Hospitality. A mix of experts including restaurant owners Natalia Paiva Neves of O Dinis and Lisa Speidel of Persimmon, Boston’s Babak Bina owner of the James Beard nominated Wig Shop as well as Bogie’s Place, winemaker Erin Parker from Round Pond Winery in Napa Valley, Scott Pinocci of Ocean House and Groundswell managing director Todd Renner will be on hand. Tickets cost $55 for the event at the Ballroom at the G, 100 Dorrance St.
