CHICOPEE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts received one of their larger donations and it came all the way from Utah.
Forty thousand pounds of food and household goods were delivered to the Food Bank on Monday. The items came all the way from Utah and were donated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
The donations will be boxed up and sent out to 193 food pantries across western Massachusetts. Over the past two years, the Food Bank has seen the number served grow by approximately 30,000 people to approximately 125,000 people a month.
The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts hopes their warehouse continues to stay full as they anticipate those numbers to rise. “As we see potentially see more programs getting cut and it’s going to be more people relying on our mobile pantries, our brown bags, our food pantries, so the need is going to continue to increase,” said Cheyenne Burnham with the Food Bank.
Typically, the Food Bank said it receives larger donations of around 1,000 pounds, so 40,000 pounds will take about a week to get into the hands of families in need.
