The Food Bank of Nevada County is excited to announce a new benefit event, Fighting Hunger Flea Market. The inaugural fundraiser is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26 in the parking lot of the Food Bank, 310 Railroad Ave., Grass Valley. The nonprofit organization is currently accepting applications for vendors, including artisans, handcrafted goods, food and more.
All proceeds from the event will go to feeding people in our community, said Julie Thornbury, executive director of The Food Bank of Nevada County.
“In the past year, a longtime Food Bank volunteer donated dozens of really nice, new items which inspired the idea for a flea market,” Thornbury said. “We have luggage sets, purses, cookware and small kitchen appliances available for sale. Our goal is to grow this generous donation into an annual community event that continues to raise money and awareness for food insecurity.”
The Food Bank of Nevada County distributed more than 2,100,000 pounds of food in 2024 through seven locations each month, 23 community agencies, home delivery and summer lunch for school-aged children. The nonprofit organization has distribution sites in Grass Valley, Higgins, North San Juan, Washington and Truckee. In addition, it provides emergency resources during weather related events such as fire or snow when power goes out.
For the first annual Fighting Hunger Flea Market, the Food Bank is seeking vendors to join in the day of fun. Art, vintage wares, handcrafted items, food trucks/carts and more are welcome to submit an application to participate.
