Pie in the Face Fundraiser raising money for local food pantry

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – The pie is the limit for one business that is cutting a piece of its time to help a local pet food pantry.

Mr. Kitty’s Cat Cafe is hosting a Pie in the Face fundraiser. The money raised will go towards Craig’s Closet, a resource for pet food and supplies. Once Craig’s Closet is filled, people in the community can use it to keep their furry friends fed.

The owner of Mr. Kitty’s Cat Cafe, Shelli Schuppel, said this fundraiser will help meet a growing need in the community.

“It’s a matter of can I even keep my pet. I can’t afford to feed them; I can’t even afford litter and such. So, there are people in our community that will actually sacrifice their own super to feed their dog, and we don’t want to see that happen.”

The cafe has partnered with the Eau Claire Humane Association to help cats find forever homes; since it opened last April, it has helped 203 cats get adopted. They are also partnering for the fundraiser to bring a food pantry closer to downtown.

By donating a dollar, people have a chance to throw a pie and help fill the pantry.

People can stop at the cafe to meet some new furry friends while enjoying coffee or make a donation for a chance to win an extra sweet prize. Ray’s Place is also accepting donations for Craig’s Closet.

The cafe is collecting donations until Thursday, April 3; the winner can throw the pie on Friday, April 4, during Mr. Kitty’s Cat Cafe’s open house on its one-year anniversary.
