MONTICELLO – Officials from the Village of Monticello brought around 70 kids and family members to the Kartrite Resort and Indoor Water Park in Monticello on Friday morning. The event was made possible through grant funding.
Former Mayor and current Village Trustee Gordon Jenkins talked about why helping underprivileged kids is important.
“There’s very little recreation in the Village and not many kids can afford to come here,” he said.
The Kartrite Resort helped to make the day possible by donating splash passes. The Kartrite’s destination sales manager John Presutti explained the program the facility runs to reward students who perform well in school.
“We love to help the local community and we offer a lot of different programs to help underprivileged kids. For example, if they come in with a report card with A’s we’ll give away a splash pass.”
Of course, the young people we spoke with had one thing in common: the goal of having fun!
Six-year-old Delilah Ridley said she was looking forward to, “swim and go on the rides.”
14-year-old Anna Ackerman remarked, “I get to hang out with my friend for today, and we could have fun together.”
13-year-old Sophia Gago said she was looking forward to, “definitely the rides in the water park and just hanging out with my friends. Overall, just having a good time today.”
”For this one day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., it will probably have an impact on a kid, and he can look around and say, ’you know, maybe one day I can get there,’” said Trustee Jenkins.
