Town of Hermon upgrades decades old ‘Little Kids’ playground structure

HERMON, Maine (WABI) – The town of Hermon is finally upgrading a structure at the elementary school just in time for summer programs to start.

The ‘Little Kids’ playground for kids ages two to five years old is now completely gone.

After town officials deemed the playground to be unsafe, they decided to go out with the old and in with the new.

The structure had been at Hermon Elementary since the 90s bringing fond memories to many locals and their families.

However, the director of recreation says this much needed upgrade isn’t just for the kids at the elementary school but for the entire town of Hermon.

“It’s a community playground as well, so the school uses it during the school year for all of the students, so that’s really important that the kids get out and their active in the school day during recess and then we run an after school program right here at the school, and it’s important for those students to get out and enjoy some fresh air and have a safe place to play,” said Lindsey Ouellette.

She said the new playground should be finished by June.

It will have four slides, swings, different musical components, and a canopy for kids to enjoy lunch under.
