Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

The Season 3 finale of “Invincible” streams on Amazon Prime today, and with the incredibly bloody episode comes news sure to thrill fans who are hoping to play the titular superhero. “Invincible” creator Robert Kirkman says that not only is the “Invincible” video game on the way but that he is “more excited” about the game than he’s “been about anything involving Invincible.”

Dexerto spoke with Kirkman recently and asked about the game. “I don’t know what I can say,” Kirkman said. I think… it’s definitely in the works. It’s definitely cool. I don’t even know if I can say how much of it I’ve seen. I’m gonna play it safe and just say, from what I have seen, I am more excited than I’ve been about anything involving Invincible.”

That is a surprising thing to say considering what a hit the animated “Invincible” TV series has been. Over the course of three seasons, the show has proven to be a hit with both fans and critics, evidenced by its 99% Rotten Tomatoes critics score, and its similar 91% audience score. That’s impressive for any series, much less one that’s been around for three seasons.

There’s already the “Invincible: Guarding the Globe” mobile RPG, but the game Kirkman’s talking about is something entirely different. This is a AAA game Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment describes as a “highly produced, high-octane blood bath that is anything  but  indie.” Through crowdfunding, Skybound raised $680,000 for the game last year but not much has been heard about it since.

Rather than a game that rehashes adventures, the fans have already watched or read, according to Skybound, the “Invincible” game “is designed to contribute new stories to the Invincible multiverse, enabling future releases, expansions, new character arcs and adventures for years to come.”

If the guarantee that it’s a “blood bath” means it’s even close to being as bloody as the show, prepare for a lot of red. The Season 3 finale streaming today is a perfect example. Pitting Invincible (Steven Yeun) against the Viltrumite villain Conquest (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the episode has entire cities collapsing in the wake of the battle, including grisly shots of the villain tearing apart innocent civilians without sparing anyone, not even children.

Production on “Invincible” season 4 is reportedly underway, with new episodes scheduled to appear sometime in 2026.
