Online pet-food company Chewy cutting over 670 jobs in Dallas

Chewy is pulling back in Dallas with cuts of more than 600 jobs.

The online pet foods company will nix 674 jobs, according to a letter from the company filed with the state. The layoffs will begin in May at the Dallas site, 7243 Grady Niblo Road.

The site itself will not close, though it “will remain open in a substantially reduced capacity.” the letter said.

In 2017, Chewy opened the 663,000-square-foot fulfillment center in southwest Dallas. It has other fulfillment centers across the country, according to a regulatory filing last year. It also has a customer service center in Richardson.

The reduction comes as other companies in the region have trimmed workers, including HelloFresh, the meal-kit company, which is shuttering a site in Grand Prairie. Retailers have been hit in particular with announced plans for store closures at Kohl’s and Macy’s locally.

Chewy provides pet products, supplies and prescriptions. It offers customers approximately 115,000 products and services offerings. In December, the company reported higher sales and better gross margins in its fiscal third quarter.
