LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Family, friends and folks in the Lynchburg community are gathering on March 16th for a truck and car show, called ‘Gears for Gaudio.’ It’s being hosted in honor of 19-year-old Cash Gaudio, who was taken too soon by an act of gun violence in his own driveway in September 2024.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to the ‘Live Like Cash Gaudio Foundation.’
Savena Royal is a family friend who’s organizing the event. She said Cash loved cars, so a car show is the perfect way to honor him.
It is in memory and honor of Cash Gaudio,” Royal said. “He was totally a car guru, so everybody in the community has pulled through, and they’re coming. As of right now we have about 48 cars and trucks.”
Royal said organizing the event is the least she can do for a teen who was loved by so many.
Cash, he made an impact on everybody. He would show up to basketball games that were hours away for his friends. He would show up for his little brother at pre-school. He would go to the gym early in the morning with somebody. He would talk about the bible with somebody,” Royal said. “He always did everything for everyone else. I thought that, what better way to honor him, is to put on something for the community. For them to be in one space, in his honor, celebrating him and doing things that they love.”
Royal said cars and trucks of all shapes and sizes are welcome at the event and they have space for about 20 more registrations inside of their roped-in area. You can register your vehicle by clicking here.
She said they’re also looking for volunteers. If you’d like to help out, click here to register.
The show starts at 2 p.m., at the Boonsboro Shopping Center. On top of the show, they’ll have a live band, a silent auction, bouncy houses and food vendors.
Especially for his mom, seeing the amount of people who have been reaching out to her, reaching out to me, really everybody, it’s just been emotional, it’s been happy, and of course, through grief you go through all of the stages,” Royal said. “This is definitely what she needed, especially the family.”
Attendees are urged to either wear purple or orange. Purple was Cash’s favorite color and orange is associated with ending gun violence.
Royal said they’re also selling t-shirts in honor of Cash, if you’d like to purchase one, click here. The event is being sponsored by SE Boutique, Chatham Home Inspections, Atlas Moon, Bounce House Inflatables and Body Works Day Spa and Salon.
