SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3)—Springfield’s Council of Churches said it received more than 2,600 coats for children in its annual Coats for Kids Campaign.
Administrators say they received so many coats this season that they have some left, allowing them to start strong this coming fall. Workers with the Council of Churches say the program and its success – means the world to kids who otherwise wouldn’t have quality winter clothing.
“For them to be out when it’s 15 degrees without an appropriate jacket is dangerous, and we don’t want any kid going to school feeling like whatever they’ve borrowed from an older sibling that’s too big, or that’s last year’s and is too small we don’t want them to feel awkward,” said Kayla Grosshart. “We want them to look like everybody else and feel secure, warm, safe, and healthy.”
If you’d like to help with the effort next season, you can donate new coats anytime or gently used items in the fall.
