First Look at Los Habaneros Mexican Food

Los Habaneros

A Mexican food truck that has been on my radar for quite some time is Los Habaneros. It’s a little yellow truck often found at the southeast corner of Kellogg and Woodlawn.

Since I was in the area, I finally had the opportunity to check them out.

This actually turned into a brief visit. Since I already had a late lunch about 30 minutes before arriving, I still wanted to stop by because I was a couple of blocks away.

The menu, found below, did not have prices.

Los Habaneros did have some meals listed on a chalkboard. The first one was 2 tacos with rice and beans. I was told it was $10 for the meal and decided to go with that. I asked for asada and al pastor, paid my $10 and was given a buzzer as I waited for my meal.

Around ten minutes later, I received two single tortilla tacos, a scoop of rice and a scoop of beans. If I had to break it down by price, my guess was $3 per taco and $2 for each side.

I’ll say that the portion size, this was a little on the smaller size. On the bright side, the tacos were stuffed with plenty of protein. They were dressed with plenty of cilantro and onions and the meats were all well-seasoned. The rice wasn’t under or overcooked, and the beans were simple.

Los Habaneros hit the spot for me, I was quite satisfied with what I received from a taste perspective. Only downside was I was still hungry after the meal. Keep in mind I had a late lunch right before too. Maybe I was just really hungry that day but, the two taco meal wasn’t enough. Small portion sizes of rice and beans, then with what I would call smaller tacos…. I should have ordered more. Just something to keep in mind if you’re a big eater.

Like I said, earlier though, I enjoyed the tacos, so that was a big positive.

I’ll have to go back to check out the burritos, nachos, or burgers next time I’m in the area.
