
Jahmai Mashack explains miscommunication that led to his game-winner

Tennessee basketball guard Jahmai Mashack is using his platform for good after hitting a game-winning 3-pointer against Alabama on Saturday.
Mashack, who made a deep 3-pointer as time expired for a 79-76 win, announced a food drive on Monday, challenging Vols fans to raise $7,900 for the Second Harvest Food Bank. The $7,900 represents Tennessee’s 79 points scored against Alabama, and would feed 23,700 families in East Tennessee, according to Mashack’s post.
Mashack announced the food drive on Monday morning, and as of 3:30 p.m. has already raised 95% of his goal, or $22,680.
The 6-foot-4 senior guard is averaging six points and 4.1 rebounds per game this season and had his best game of the season against Alabama, posting a season-high 11 points on 3 of 5 shooting. The defensive specialist also had six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and three steals in 34 minutes.
Mashack’s post announcing the food drive already has 91,000 views as of late Monday afternoon.
The Fontana, California, native was a four-star recruit in the 2021 class, tabbed as the No. 62 player nationally and No. 12 small forward, according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings. His shot on Saturday catapulted Tennessee to No. 4 in the most recent USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll update, making the Vols the second highest-ranked SEC team in the country, only behind No. 1 Auburn.
