LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Organizations and nonprofits continue to provide vital support to those affected by the recent flooding in Kerr County. Food banks across Texas, including the South Texas Food Bank in Laredo, are banding together to aid disaster relief efforts.
The South Texas Food Bank is preparing trailers loaded with essential supplies—from baby diapers to bottles of root beer—to help hundreds of families who lost everything in Kerrville.
Alma Boubel, CEO of the South Texas Food Bank, said, “As you can see, we’ve got product here that we are starting to load up some of the trailers on the disaster relief catastrophe.”
The South Texas Food Bank is partnering with the San Antonio Food Bank, which covers Kerrville, to provide easy-to-prepare food, toiletries, and baby supplies to flood victims.
Deanne Economedes, disaster lead for the South Texas Food Bank, explained, “We are sending a full trailer load, which is 24 pallets of product right now, and we’ll have more to share in the coming days.”
Economedes added that roughly 20 food banks across Texas have been working nonstop to support affected communities.
Boubel emphasized the spirit of cooperation: “We kind of work together with each other. They’re our neighbors, and we all come immediately to their rescue, and we help them out with whatever we can spare.”
Every pallet of food and supplies comes from community donations—a small gesture that means a great deal to those facing tragedy.
Economedes expressed gratitude: “Thank you so much to everyone who has come out to support—our donors, volunteers, and everyone in the community, around the state, and around the country for helping. We ask that you continue to keep all the families and first responders in our thoughts and prayers at this time.”
