‘Keep all the kids together’: Tri-State triplets with medical challenges to get adopted

GREEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) – Playtime at the park requires an entire crew for triplets Davidson, Jamison, and Braison, plus their little brother, Waylon.

Chasing after the rambunctious bunch are their grandma Amy, their mom Amber, and the home health nurses they depend on.

“Our nurses are phenomenal. The Tender Care nurses that we have are amazing. They love the boys as their own. It’s not just a job for them,” said the boys’ grandmother, Amy Kippler Lockwood.

Tuesday will mark a new chapter for the boys, who will officially be adopted by their grandmother.

“We really are excited for the adoption because we’re able to keep all the kids together,” said Lockwood. “I love the fact that we’re able to step in and not take them away from mommy but help her to grow with them. As they grow, she grows,” Lockwood said.

The triplets turn three in August. After being born 15 weeks prematurely, they’ve overcome a lot. However, the boys still face serious medical and developmental challenges.

“When we took them from the NICU one by one, it was not to adopt these kids. It was to help them get to where they needed to be,” said Lockwood.

The family was overwhelmed with support when people across southeast Indiana and beyond banded together in April to help with the children’s medical expenses.

Since then, the family has been able to buy more medical equipment and better car seats and secure a more handicap-accessible home—and make modifications to it.

“Since the benefit, we still have had just mysterious drop-offs of like, we got a picnic table for the boys, we got a table and chair for the boys,” Lockwood said. “We still periodically get a big supply of diapers for the boys.”

The triplets are set to start preschool in September. The family is thankful for their neighbors, who have been a huge support group. Those neighbors will be at the adoption ceremony on Tuesday.
