Fair Food Network expands access to healthy food with Double Up Food Bucks

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Fair Food Network announced July as Double Up Food Bucks Awareness Month.

Double Up Food Bucks is a community resource that helps recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) purchase more fresh fruits and vegetables.

The program provides households in Michigan using SNAP a dollar-for-dollar match, up to $20 a day, on fresh produce purchases at participating grocery stores and farmers markets across Michigan.

Over 20 new locations are participating in the program this year compared to last.

The Double Up Food Bucks events in July will have raffles, giveaways, and opportunities to sign up for the program.

Celebrations will be held at the following locations:

• Lansing: Tuesday, July 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Farmers Market at the Capitol, 100 N Capitol Ave.
• Grand Rapids: Thursday, July 10 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Great Giant, 1226 Madison Ave. SE #200.
• Flint: Thursday, July 17, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Hutchison Neighborhood Market, 6509 N Saginaw St.
• Detroit: Friday, July 11, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Imperial Fresh Market, 14424 Schaefer Hwy.
• Muskegon: Saturday, July 12 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Muskegon Farmers Market, 242 W Western Ave.
• Marquette: Wednesday, July 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Marquette Food Co-op, 502 W Washington St. 

In 2024, SNAP and Double Up benefits helped purchase $12.4 million worth of local produce, supporting more than 188,000 households and over 1,000 Michigan farmers.
