THOMPSON, Conn. (WFSB) – Every summer, the Team IMPACT community gets together at Thompson Speedway.
The Team IMPACT community connects kids with serious injuries and illnesses with college athletic teams all around the country.
Families from all over New England have the opportunity to ride in racecars with professional drivers.
It’s an incredible thrill for so many of these kids who have more struggles than smiles.
“I can’t imagine there are many things more important than to put a smile on a kids face, especially a kid who doesn’t smile a lot,” said Maura Amborse, Regional Executive Director, Team IMPACT.
Team IMPACT started this VIP racing experience 5 years ago.
Vince Barletta, a driver with Turner Motorsports, has been part of it since day one.
“We weren’t really sure how the kids would take to the race cars. It couldn’t have been a bigger success the first year, and it has grown ever since. To share something I love, which is race cars, the guys from Turner, and a great place like Thompson Speedway, it means a lot to me,” he said.
The day included other fun family events, but none of the other stuff compared to the thrill of a 120 mile an hour ride in the front seat of a race car!
