Meet Jeff Bezos’s 4 Kids with Ex MacKenzie Scott: All About the Amazon Heirs

  • Jeff Bezos shares three sons and one daughter with ex-wife MacKenzie Scott.
  • Their oldest son, Preston Bezos, arrived in 2000. Their other children’ s names and ages are not publicly known.
  • Bezos and Scott reportedly adopted their daughter from China.

When he isn’t running billion-dollar companies, Jeff Bezos is managing a busy household as a father of four. The Amazon founder shares three sons and one daughter with his ex-wife, philanthropist and novelist MacKenzie Scott. Only his oldest son Preston’s name is known to the public, as the ultra-wealthy mogul fiercely protects the privacy of his heirs.

He’ll be growing his family soon, as Bezos is set to marry journalist and longtime partner Lauren Sánchez in June 2025. The two are rumored to be tying the knot between June 24 and 26, a spokesperson for the mayor of Venice told CNN. After the opulent, star-studded three-day celebration, Bezos will officially be a stepfather to Sánchez’s three children—making him a dad of seven.

While one of the world’s wealthiest men is no stranger to the public eye, he keeps his children away from the spotlight. Yet he doesn’t shelter them from all the world’s risks. During a 2017 appearance at Summit LA17, the Washington Post owner revealed a surprising parenting practice he and Scott used to nurture resourcefulness. “Our kids, even now—they’re 17 through 12, but even when they were 4, we would let them use our knives,” he said at the festival. “By the time they were, I don’t know, maybe 7 or 8, we would let them use certain power tools.”

He credits his ex-wife with inspiring the idea, sharing a humorous quote from her. “She said, ‘I would much rather have a kid with nine fingers than a resourceless kid.’ Which I just think is a fantastic attitude about life,” he said, clarifying that his kids thankfully had all 10 fingers.

Bezos never had a relationship with his own father, Ted Jorgensen, who left the family while Bezos was still an infant per People. “I’ve never met him,” the billionaire told Wired of the late Jorgensen in a 1999 interview. His mother’s second husband, Miguel Bezos, adopted him. In a 2020 Father’s Day Instagram post, Bezos wrote a touching tribute to the man who raised him. “My dad came here from Cuba by himself when he was 16 years old and speaking no English. He adopted me when I was four years old and never looked back. I love you, Dad,” the caption reads.

Although there’s not much publicly known about his four children, he’s provided some information about the Bezos brood over the years. Here’s everything to know about Jeff Bezos’ four kids.

Various sources report that Bezos and Scott’s first child, Preston Bezos, was born in 2000. The oldest Bezos child shares his first name with his father, sort of—Preston is the entrepreneur’s middle name. Bezos’ maternal grandfather Lawrence Preston Gise and his great grandfather Lloyd Preston Gise also share the moniker, the Wall Street Journal reported in 2011.

The names of Bezos and Scott’s three younger children are unknown, as are their ages. CNN reported that Bezos and Scott’s daughter was adopted from China. In his 2017 Summit appearance, Bezos indicated that his youngest child was 12 years old, suggesting his kids are all adults between the ages of 20 and 25 in 2025.

Bezos’ children may have had a different upbringing than most since their father is a multi-billionaire, but their mother tried to keep them grounded. MacKenzie Scott opened up about eschewing nannies in favor of hands-on parenting in a 2013 Vogue interview, even attempting to homeschool her kids while she put her writing career on hold.

“We tried all sorts of things, including off-season travel, kitchen-science experiments, chicken incubation, Mandarin lessons, the Singapore math program, and lots of clubs and sports with other neighborhood kids,” she told the publication. Eventually, Scott put them in school to refocus on her writing—and to avoid isolating them from peers because of their family’s wealth, a close friend told Vogue in the same interview.

In 2019, Bezos took to Instagram to share how, like many dads, he bonded with his kids by watching TV with them. “Binged Stranger Things Season 3 yesterday with my kids and a few of their friends. God, Eggos are good, and the show was even better. Awesome season,” he captioned a picture of a box of Eggo waffles and a Stranger Things-themed backdrop.

His son Preston may have graduated from MIT.

At a 2018 conference, Bezos recalled moving his son Preston into college. “I helped him move into his dorm with my wife, and it was bittersweet. […] I didn’t get sad until the day before,” the mogul added of the relatable parenting experience.

While Bezos never publicly confirmed which university his oldest child attended, Preston’s name appears in the program for MIT’s 2022 commencement ceremony. According to the document, he received a Bachelor of Science in Humanities and Engineering.

Photos published by The Daily Mail showed Bezos and then-girlfriend Sanchez in attendance at MIT’s commencement ceremony in 2022, although the publication couldn’t confirm Preston’s enrollment at the time. A 2023 Vogue profile reported that Bezos’ other children were also in college.

The Internet has long been fascinated with the morning routines of the rich and famous, and Bezos is no exception. He revealed his surprisingly low-key morning routine in a September 2018 conversation with Economic Club of Washington D.C. president David M. Rubenstein.

“I like to putter in the morning, so I like to read the newspaper, I like to have coffee, [and] I like to have breakfast with my kids before they go to school,” the entrepreneur said.

In the same conversation, he was asked how he shields his children from the effects of his wealth. “I don’t really shield them,” he explained. “They’re very, very mature. Kids are smart. They know what’s going on. My oldest son, when he was 12, I asked him, ‘Do your classmates ever talk about me?’ [He said,] ‘Oh, sure.’ ‘What do you tell them?’ ‘I tell them my life is normal to me.’ And I thought, wow, that’s so profound, because everybody’s life is normal to them. We all have that.”

His children have made rare public appearances with him.

Bezos is always out and about, and on a few occasions, he’s brought his kids along. In 2020, he took son Preston to the Oscars. Amazon’s French film Les Misérables was up for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.

Comedian Chris Rock took a jab at Bezos during the show, per Variety, joking, “Jeff Bezos was so rich he got divorced and he’s still the richest man in the world. He saw Marriage Story and thought it was a comedy.” The camera cut to the audience, where Bezos and Preston were seen laughing side-by-side at the light roast.

Back in 2016, he appeared at the Star Trek Beyond premiere in San Diego with ex-wife Scott and all four children in tow. The Blue Origin founder, who has a long-held fascination with space exploration, had a brief cameo in the film as an alien, AP reported.
