LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – The kids First: Homeless action plan is designed to protect children and neighborhoods while offering compassionate support to those experiencing transitional homelessness, by enforcing laws, prioritizing federal funding for housing and taking a stance on chronic homelessness.
Ultimately the luncheon held today was to collaborate, connect, and coordinate real solutions. Captain Briyan Brinlee said they’ve had a lot of success pulling people off the street.
Mayor Stan Booker said: “What we’re doing here today is defining roles, what is the role of the city of Lawton, which is public safety, and what is the role of the community members which is restoring lives, and how can we work together, both the city work with the public service organizations and the churches but also all the public organizations work together because the real goal has to be to restore lives.
Mayor Booker said, only the public organizations can do that.
Captain Bryan Brinlee of the Salvation Army said: they’ve had a lot of success pulling people off the street.
Brinlee said “One of the greatest things that people have in chronic homelessness is the breakdown of a relationship. He say’s us as people can offer a relationship, and we need to do that. Brinlee then said we need to do more than just saying kind words”.
