Critically ill kids sail the high seas as pirates thanks to charity

All children deserve the opportunity to feel like a kid, but it can be hard for those fighting critical illnesses. So on Thursday, the Casey Cares Foundation hosted 80 children and their families to set sail on a pirate cruise around Fells Point. The kids enjoyed a scavenger hunt, music, and other games on board — and this day of fun came at no cost to their families.”The kids just have a great time and the parents love being on the boat. They love to see their kids happy, they love to see their kids having a distraction from all the very serious things that they’re going through on a daily basis,” said Erin Ritter, the foundation’s deputy associate director. “For an hour and a half, they get to just be kids, they get to just be pirates. We’re really grateful to be able to provide that to them.”Urban Pirates and the Casey Cares Foundation first began this partnership in 2008. The goal is to create lasting memories for these families.
