Boston restaurant manager detained by ICE despite valid work status, family says

SO MANY OTHERS, WE GIVE HIM A HUG. WE SAID BYE BYE, HAPPY FATHER’S DAY, WHICH IS THE NEXT DAY ON THE 15TH. THIS PHOTO IS FROM JUNE 14TH. IT’S THE LAST TIME CECELIA LIZOTTE SAW HER BROTHER PAUL. SHE SAYS THE NIGERIAN NATIONAL WAS ARRESTED BY IMMIGRATIONS AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT THE NEXT DAY WHILE WALKING TO CHURCH IN BROCKTON. SHE SAYS HE WAS AWAITING AN ASYLUM HEARING. LEGALLY, THEY’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO ARREST HIM. HE IS NOT OUT OF STATUS AND HE JUST RECENTLY RENEWED HIS WORKERS PERMIT AUTHORIZATION, WHICH IS RENEWED UNTIL 2029. SO I DON’T KNOW WHY THAT JUST HAPPENED. CECELIA OWNS SUYA JOINT AND ROXBURY PROVIDENCE, ALONG WITH A POPULAR FOOD TRUCK. TO PAUL IS HER OPERATIONS MANAGER, DOING ALL SORTS OF THINGS AROUND THE RESTAURANTS. JUST WHEN I THINK, OKAY, YES, WE SURVIVED COVID, RIGHT? AND THEN NOW IT’S ALMOST LIKE YOU’RE NOT GOING TO SURVIVE THIS JUST FOR THE FACT THAT I DON’T HAVE HIS HELP. I DON’T HAVE HIS ASSISTANCE. PAUL IS IN AN ICE DETENTION CENTER IN DOVER, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NOW, REFILING HIS ASYLUM CLAIM AND WAITING FOR A BOND HEARING NEXT WEEK. CECELIA PRAYING THE JUDGE IS REASONABLE AND GRATEFUL FOR THE COMMUNITY’S SUPPORT. EVERY DAY WHEN YOU WAKE UP, THERE’S UNCERTAINTY. IT’S LIKE DEGRADING. I FEEL SO DEFEATED BECAUSE IT’S LIKE, NO, THIS ISN’T WHAT I SHOULD BE FEELING. SO PAUL’S BOND HEARING IS SET FOR JULY 3RD. THE FAMILY ALSO SET UP A GOFUNDME PAGE TO HELP RAISE MONEY TO COVER SOME LEGAL EXPENSES. AND THAT GOFUNDME HAS TOPPED $20,000. LIVE HERE IN ROXBUR
