Here’s a recap of Greer City Council’s June 24 meeting.
Approved: Ordinance amending food truck background checks
Council voted 6-1 to approve first reading of an ordinance amending language regarding background checks for operators of food trucks in an effort to address concerns the existing language was too onerous.
During discussion of the measure, City Administrator Andy Merriman explained the logic behind the existing requirement to perform a background check going back 20 years and singling out food trucks was based on the transient nature of such businesses.
The proposed change would reduce that period to 10 years, but several council members expressed concerns halving the time period was still too burdensome.
Councilman Kariuam Booker advocated reducing the period to three years, but other council members indicated they were leaning toward a period of five years.
Merriman said such a change could be addressed at second and final reading of the ordinance, which could take place as soon at council’s July 8 meeting.
Approved: Resolutions accepting subdivision roads into city inventory
Council unanimously approved a pair of resolutions accepting roads in two subdivisions into the city’s road inventory.
The first measure accepted Crisp Cameo Court, Golden Gala Way and Cripps Pink Place in the Braeburn Orchard subdivision into the city’s system.
The second measure added O’Neal Village Avenue, Meritage Street, Wicker Park Avenue, Kelvyn Street, Schiller Drive, Lawndale Drive, Noble Street, Daystrom Drive, Novelty Drive, Glendon Street, Leander Drive and Wakelon Drive from the O’Neal Village subdivision into the city system.
