Drew Davidson, Co-Owener of Freedom Firearms & Defense, has launched a unique summer camp in Southeast Texas focused on teaching children firearm safety. The Freedom Kids Camp, aims to provide quality firearms training to the community.
Davidson said, “We buy firearms to protect ourselves and protect our families. And it’s essential that the tool that we’re purchasing doesn’t end up becoming a harm itself.”
The camp at Freedom Farms Defense’s main location near Parkdale Mall offers sessions for children aged eight and up. Davidson explained that the camp uses training tools in a “force and force environment” to ensure safety while teaching kids how to handle pistols. He noted that learning to handle a pistol makes handling a rifle much easier.
Davidson said, “We teach a ton of kids starting around four years old. Our camp is for ages eight and up. But we absolutely will do private lessons with those younger ages.”
The camp includes fun activities such as shooting glow-in-the-dark targets and, for those who complete the five-day camp and demonstrate good gun safety, the opportunity to shoot a machine gun.
Davidson emphasized the importance of early registration due to limited space, saying, “Sign up early. There is a limit on space. We’re trying to manage kids in a safe environment.”
The next sessions are scheduled to start on July 7 and July 21, with two options each week. The cost is $150, with discounts available for siblings. Registration can be completed at freedomfd.com under the “train” tab.
