PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Ahead of a potentially active hurricane season, Florida Power & Light is distributing hurricane preparedness meal kits to seniors across Bay County.
Partnering with the Bay County Council on Aging, the meal kits help seniors who may not be able to leave their homes or receive home-delivered meals post-storm.
The kits ensure that they are equipped with vital supplies, including three days of shelf-stable, nutritious food, water and snacks.
This is 16 years running that FPL has supported the hurricane meal kit program around the state.
FPL officials said they not only enjoy seeing community members but know the importance of creating awareness with a sense of comfort.
Shane Boyette, FPL Senior External Affairs Manager, said, “It’s really kind of a couple things. Just an appreciation that we’re out here doing this. Everybody likes free stuff, right and so having that something that we can offer in addition to the information that we provide and the supplies that we put on their shelves.”
Now is the time to be prepared and have a plan. For more information on tips, checklists and more, visit fpl.com/storm.
