Sherman ISD hosts Bearcat summer camps for kids

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – Sherman ISD’s annual Bearcat summer camps are in full swing, with baseball and basketball camps being held Tuesday at Sherman High School.

The camps are targeted to helping kids grow their abilities, or introduce them to a new passion, all while making memories.

“I get to improve with my coaches and have fun with my friends too,” Winston Clark, baseball camp attendee, said.

He is able to have fun practicing his favorite parts of the game.

“Hitting, running bases and tagging people out,” Clark said.

While improving on his skills.

“Speed, agility and everything I need to work on,” Clark said.

Girls basketball was also in session Tuesday, being coached by members of the Sherman High School girls basketball team.

“Right now, it’s these older girls in the basketball program helping out the younger girls with some of the finer mechanics,” Rihanna Hill, player on Sherman High School girls basketball team, said.

The camp, held yearly, is something the athletes look forward to.

“We will be in summer workouts, it will be difficult, but at the end of the day we get to look forward to teaching somebody the sport that we love,” Hill said.

The camp is giving all attendees the ability to try something new.

“We are giving an opportunity for all these kids to dabble in some that they like, some that they kind of like and some that they might really like,” Alan McDougal, Sherman Athletic Director, said.

Wednesday kicks off the track and field camp for the Bearcats, the last of the sports offered camps, but Sherman ISD will continue to host camps through July. The camps include the Fine Arts Camp and the Career and Technical Education camp.
