LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A major bread donation is helping the South Plains Food Bank feed local children this summer.
Mrs. Baird’s donated 11,000 loaves to support the food bank’s summer feeding program. The bread will be used to provide breakfast and lunch to around 800 children across 12 program sites Monday through Friday.
“There are a lot of kids who don’t always have a fresh meal at home,” SPFB Director of Development Mindy Weaver said.
The donation is part of the company’s “Fighting Texas Hunger” campaign, which includes contributions to food banks across the state.
“For us to be able to partner with our local food banks it’s a great match for our product. It’s a great need for a food bank especially for the summer,” Mrs. Baird’s representative Shane Sumrow said.
Employees from Mrs. Baird’s Lubbock location also volunteered their time to make hundreds of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that will be distributed to kids this week.
