Hundreds of workers impacted as Hy-Vee closes centralized food preparation facilities

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – Hundreds of employees at Hy-Vee food preparation facilities across the state will work their last shift Tuesday.

In April, Hy-Vee announced the closure of two major food preparation facilities, impacting 461 employees.

A regional bakery in Cedar Rapids also announced its closure.

60 workers were employed at the bakery. Senior Vice President of Communications, Tina Potthoff, told TV9 that all the workers at the Cedar Rapids facility were placed elsewhere.

The two other facilities impacted by the closures are located in Ankeny and Chariton.

Hy-Vee made the decision to close the facilities after conducting reviews of the products made there. Production will now be moved back to local stores.
