The Georgia Department of Public Health, Environmental Health Section, conducts regular restaurant inspections to help keep residents and visitors safe.

The following is a list of restaurants in Richmond and Columbia counties that were inspected June 12-20, accompanied by their scores and, in some cases, the health infractions that lowered those scores.

Disclaimer: On any given day, an establishment may have fewer or more violations than noted in their most recent inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term conditions at the establishment. A few more recent, follow-up inspections may not be included here.

Here are the restaurants in Richmond and Columbia counties that posted the lowest recent food-service inspections between June 12-20, followed by their scores and, where available, inspectors’ comments. Scores of 70 and below are considered failing:

Wings 2 Go, 2763 Tobacco Road, 88

  • Observed raw chicken being stored over ready to eat sauces. Raw chicken should be stored on bottom shelf. Manager moved sauces off bottom shelf and placed raw chicken on bottom shelf.
  • Observed containers of food stored on floor of walk in cooler. Containers of food need to be kept at least six inches off the floor.

DQ Grill and Chill, 5143 Bluegrass Trail, Grovetown, 87

  • Observed employee leave kitchen to go outside. Upon entering kitchen the same employee failed to wash hands before putting on gloves to continue on the line. Employee was stopped, gloves thrown away, and hands were washed before putting on new gloves. Ensure employees are aware of proper handwashing and when to wash hands.
  • Observed cleaning needed on inside of all cold holding units, unused equipment, vent hood, racks in all areas, lids on ice cream. Clean thoroughly and routinely.
  • Observed floors and walls in all areas in need of cleaning including storage, cake area, ice cream area, coolers, etc. Clean thoroughly and routinely.

Tanks Sports Bar & Grill, 215 10th St., Augusta, 86

  • Observed one handwashing sink’s paper towel dispenser not working and one handwashing sink’s soap dispenser not working. This would make employees wash in one sink and walk to the other sink to dry off hands. Fix soap and paper towel dispensers.
  • Observed one handwashing sink blocked by broom, bucket, and dustpan. Have handwashing sinks accessible for employees to use.
  • Observed several temperature-controlled-for-safety (TCS) food – cooked mac & cheese 58F, cooked grits 58F, and cheese 57F – stored above 41F in the reach-in-cooler. TCS food had been moved to ice baths. All temperature-controlled food for safety should be cold held at 41F and below.
  • Observed the incorrect sanitizer test strips (chlorine). Obtain the correct sanitizer test strips (Quat) to test the sanitizer concentration.
  • Observed mop stored in 3-compartment sink. Clean and sanitize 3-compartment sink after removing mop. Mops should be placed in a position that allows them to air dry without soiling walls, equipment, or supplies.

Short Stop #2 – Blimpie, 1714 15th St., Augusta, 86

  • Observed no employee health reporting agreements for agreement of employees on reporting symptoms and/or foodborne illnesses. Obtain employee health reporting agreements on the Department of Public Health website and have each food prep employee to read and sign. Have the reporting agreements on file at all times.
  • Observed no bodily fluid clean up kit and no written response procedures for vomiting and diarrheal events. Obtain a bodily fluid clean up kit and written response procedures for vomiting and diarrheal events. Keep kit and written response procedures in establishment at all times.
  • Observed no labeling on foods stored in reach in cooler. Label food with prep dates as well as discard by dates.
  • Observed reach in cooler not holding food below 41F. Reach in cooler was maintaining a temperature of 56F-60F. Fix cooler to maintain holding food at 41F and below.
  • Observed a food inspection report (5/7/24) displayed that was not the most recent inspection. Always display the most recent food inspection report where it’s visible to the public.

Little Caesars Pizza, 3697 Windsor Spring Road, Hephzibah, 85

  • Observed cheese and sausage in prep top cooler not being held at 41F or below. TCS food in cold storage needs to be kept at 41F or below.
  • Observed one employee wearing a bracelet during food prep. Only jewelry allowed is a single plain banded ring.
  • Observed scoops without handles being left in the food between uses. Scoops with handles may be left in food between uses, but the handle must stay out of the food.
  • Observed build on floors and walls of main kitchen area and the area behind the kitchen.  Clean floors and walls of these areas listed above.
  • Observed mop not hung u to air dry. Mops must be hung up to air dry.

Partridge Inn – Rooftop Bar and Kitchen, 2110 Walton Way, Augusta, 85

  • Dish machine in upstairs bar not sanitizing. Keep clean: splash zones of mixers. Mixers were cleaned. Service company for dish machine contacted (sanitizer not feeding).
  • Collards cooled from the previous night were 47F.  Discarded.

Tacocat/Pharamen’l, 990 Broad St., Augusta, 83

  • Observed pink and black buildup inside ice machine in behind the bar by the walk-in-cooler. Clean. Increase cleaning frequency.
  • Observed black buildup inside and underneath the spouts of the slush machine in the bar area. Clean. Increase cleaning frequency.
  • Observed several TCS foods (cheese, 61F; Pico de Gallo, 55F; cabbage, 55F; shrimp, 64F; fish, 64F,) being cold held above 41F in prep top cooler and one reach-in cooler. Manager placed ice underneath food. All temperature controlled for safety food must be cold held at 41F and below.
  • Observed dishes stacked wet. Allow dishes to properly air-dry prior to storing.

A Town Wings, 3412 Mike Padgett Hwy., Augusta, 82

  • Observed uncovered chicken inside walk-in-cooler. Food needs to be covered while in storage.
  • Observed TCS food in back PTC not being held at 41F or below. Have prep top coolers fixed to maintain a temp of 41F or below.
  • Observed most recent inspection not posted. Post most recent inspection.

Holiday Inn Express, 444 Broad St., Augusta, 80

  • PIC/CFSM must actively control temperatures of TCS food.
  • No Certified Food Manager for establishment. (Posted CFSM no longer employed; have 60 days from date of last employment to replace CFSM).
  • Store food in a tightly covered container (grits, sugar)
  • Observed potentially hazardous food cold held at greater than 41F (dairy in carafe, cream cheese, yogurt in display cooler). Discard dairy placed in carafe for service period (or maintain at 41F or below), turn thermostat on display cooler to keep ambient lower (to keep food 41F or below).
  • Equipment and utensils not properly air-dried.

Texas Roadhouse, 107 Sherwood Dr., Augusta, 79

  • Observed employee drinks stored in RIF containing clean plates. Observed employee drinks stored on dish racks. Store employee drinks in a designated area away from food contact surfaces.
  • Observed reddish brown build up inside bulk ice machine. Clean food contact surfaces as needed.
  • Observed PIC cell phone on prep top cutting board. Store personal belongings elsewhere and not on surfaces that come in contact with food.
  • Observed several employees wearing bracelets and watches during active food prep and food handling. Observed cook with no beard net. Refrain from wearing jewelry on the hands and wrists during food prep. Beards longer than a ½-inch need to wear beard nets.
  • Observed wet nesting of stacked dishes. Allow dishes to properly air-dry prior to stacking.
  • Observed no reading of sanitizer buckets on line. Utilize sanitizer buckets properly and add sanitizer to the correct concentration. Corrected on site by PIC-added sanitizer.
  • Observed build-up on walls near grill line and in between other equipment. Clean non-food contact surfaces regularly.
  • Observed dumpster lids left open. Repeat violation. Keep dumpster lids closed when not in use.
  • Observed fly presence throughout kitchen. Determine a suitable method to deter flies from kitchen area. Keep back door leading to dumpster closed if possible.

Lenox On Tenth, 211 10th St Augusta, 64

  • Observed no food safety certification manager in addition to multiple priority violations, including food safety knowledge. Obtain certification of food safety, monitor kitchen and ensure active managerial control is used.
  • Observed no certification for food safety management. Obtain certification for food safety management within 30 days.
  • Observed two handwashing sinks blocked by mop bucket, sanitizer buckets in the sink, and trash can. Ensure handwashing sinks are accessible at all times.
  • Observed soap and paper towels missing from one of the handwashing facilities. Soap and paper towels were provided. Ensure all handwashing facilities are stocked with soap, towels, and trash can.
  • Observed no bodily fluid cleanup kit and written procedures. Obtain a bodily fluid cleanup kit within 10 days. Obtain or write procedures for vomiting and diarrheal events.
  • Observed food contact surfaces (outside of storage containers, inside of ice machine in bar area) with residue and debris. Increase cleaning frequency and make sure to wash, rinse, and sanitize food contact surfaces.
  • Observed cheese, bacon, shrimp, oysters, tomatoes, and chicken cold held above 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Prep cooler was turned off overnight, contributing to the food being held in the danger zone. Observed waffle mix and raw chicken being held at room temperature. All time/temperature control for safety food must be cold held at 41 degrees Fahrenheit or below. The food was designated as do not sell and discarded.
  • Observed brussels sprouts, chicken and other foods with no label indicating discard date. All TCS food must have a date mark and should be discarded if held for longer than 7 days, day 1 being the prep date. Repeat violation.
  • Observed two chemical bottles with no label. Label all chemicals stored outside of original container with its common name.
  • Observed items (flour, sugar, brussels sprouts, and chicken) stored in reach-in-cooler and pantry without a label. Label all food items when storing outside of its original container. Repeat violation.
  • Observed no sanitizer test strips. Obtain test strips to test sanitizer concentration.
