Firecracker 5K and Kids Fun Run return to Fort Thomas on July 4

The Campbell County YMCA will host its annual Firecracker 5K Run/Walk on the morning of July 4 in Fort Thomas.

The event begins with the Al Salvato Kids Fun Run at 7:40 a.m. Children can participate without registering and will run a loop around the Fort Thomas Mess Hall. The Firecracker 5K will follow at 8:15 a.m.

There is no fee for the Kids Fun Run. However, in memory of Al Salvato, the YMCA will collect new or gently used children’s running shoes. Donations will go to the Brighton Center.

Registration for the Firecracker 5K is as follows:

• $35: early registration (no shirt)
• $45: early registration with shirt (unisex, moisture-wicking tee)
• $50: race day registration (includes shirt while supplies last)

The first 500 finishers will receive a commemorative medal. A “Best Dressed” award will be given to participants in patriotic attire.

Additional Fourth of July festivities in Fort Thomas include a parade, live music, food trucks, and activities in the new park.
