Green Bay couple faces charges after drug bust; 2 young kids found in fentanyl-laden home

GREEN BAY (WLUK) — Two Green Bay residents are facing child neglect and drug charges after police found two children, ages 5 months and 3 years old, in an east-side home with access to fentanyl.

Clarence Williams, 26, faces eight counts, including four of manufacture or delivery of fentanyl and neglecting a child. During an initial court appearance Thursday, bond was set at $25,000 cash. He returns to court July 15 for a balance of initial appearance.

Derika Young, 28, faces four counts, including possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and neglecting a child. During an initial court appearance Thursday, bond was set at $5,000 cash. She returns to court July 24 for a balance of initial appearance.

Young was visibly emotional during her court appearance, crying and putting her head in her hands.

According to the criminal complaints, police worked with a confidential informant (CI) to make a drug buy from Williams on multiple occasions earlier this year.

“The CI said they have known WILLIAMS for several years and have purchased fentanyl from WILLIAMS over 1,000 times,” the complaint states.

Police followed Williams as he left the area of his home on Oakdale Avenue, and arrested him after a traffic stop.

They also went to the house, where they found Young and her children, ages five months and three years old.

“During the search of the residence 72.82 grams of fentanyl, 4.89 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and $440 in US currency were located,” the complaint states.

It again is to be noted that the fentanyl was in plain view in an open pocket of backpack that was on the couch where both kids and YOUNG were. Any exposure to the fentanyl could have easily killed the children. YOUNG should have known the inherent risks of this as she lost her young nephew to fentanyl exposure in the past, however it is clear that she did not take that unfortunate incident serious and is now putting her own kids in the same situation,” the complaint states.

Williams told police he is unemployed, but asked for a lawyer before answering questions about if he dealt drugs. He described Young as the mother of his children, who occasionally stays with him at the Oakdale Avenue home.

The complaints do not include comments from Young.

The children were placed with a relative, according to the complaint.
