It’s Summer! That means that most local kids are out of, or about to get out of, school. For some parents that means a scramble to make sure that their kids have fun stuff to do over the Summer. But… what does the long break from school mean for kids? Read on to find out!
August Kaemon, a fourth grader at Larchmont Charter Hollygrove at Selma said, “I’m excited about next year, but also a little sad that this school year is over so soon. It feels like it just began!” He said he’s really looking forward to going on trips with his family during vacation.

Myla Schaer, a fifth grader at Larchmont Charter Selma, states, “This was my first year at Larchmont Charter Selma, and I loved it so much. There is always something fun going on on the giant campus. I am sad to leave fifth grade, but I am excited for all the new adventures I can have in the summer, like musical theater, sleepaway camp, and even creating my own camp, Kool Kiddie Kamp.”

“I’m excited for the summer,” said Elsie Mohr who is finishing fifth grade at Larchmont Charter Selma. “I’m going to NY with my family. So, I’m excited, but I’m also sad to see the school year end.”

Annabelle Shariat, a fifth-grade student at Larchmont Charter Selma says, “Although it’s a relief that school is over, it’s kind of sad too because I’ll miss my friends, especially the ones who are leaving this school. But I’m seriously looking forward to being able to relax and not worry about homework!”

Her brother, Kayvan Shariat, is finishing fourth grade at Larchmont Charter Hollygrove at Selma and said, “I’m very excited about school getting out because I can play video games and chill. I’m really excited to go to camps, especially Cirque School.”

Asher Collins who is home schooled and just finished fourth grade said, “Summer vacation is going to be exciting and fun because I am going to be enjoying new experiences. I am going to Sicily to explore ancient ruins, Mount Etna (which just erupted) and [will] of course [be eating] pasta!” Collins said he finished super-early with straight A’s, so summer for him is extra-long this year. “Thank God we have lots of ice cream stores on Larchmont to beat the heat. I am sad about the news stand is having to be shut down though.”

Stella Coppola who just finished seventh grade at Immaculate Heart, said, “I am a mixed bag about school ending. For starters I love summer. I love being able to sleep in and stay up late. I love going to theater camp, the pool and Palm Springs. Summer is the time I get to do whatever I want. But it’s also really sad for me because lots of my good friends are eighth graders will be leaving the school next year to go to high school. The last two years I spent on stage doing plays and hanging out with them and it’ll be weird not seeing them every day next year.”
Over summer she is looking forward to visiting her grandparents in Palm Springs, swimming, going to the movies, hanging out with her friends and going to summer school. Most of all she said she’s excited to go to Shakespeare camp where she will be performing, “Love Laborers, Lost.”

So, that’s the scoop about Summer, from local kids.
