WELLFORD, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Wellford Police Department reports arresting an officer with the Anderson Police Department after she allegedly pointed a gun at a woman and her kids during a road rage incident on I-85 on Sunday.
Officers report responding to a disturbance at mile marker 67 on I-85 south around 5:45 p.m.
An officer had two vehicles pull over into the parking lot at Nikita’s on Greenville Highway near Spartanburg Road, police said.
An incident report said the occupant of one of the vehicles told police that Paige Newell pointed a gun at her and her children during a road rage incident and that Newell intentionally backed into the victim’s vehicle when they parked. Her children also said Newell had a gun.
Newell denied pulling a gun, saying that, as a police officer, she “knew better,” and she said she only backed into the other vehicle because she was “blocked in,” according to an incident report.
Police report Newell was charged with pointing/presenting a firearm and was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center where she was released on a PR bond on Monday.
Her gun was seized and returned to the Anderson Police Department, officers said.
FOX Carolina has reached out to the Anderson Police Department for a statement.
