South Forrest Co. Food Pantry nearly doubles its goal on first food box distribution day

FORREST COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – The new food pantry in South Forrest County held its first-ever food box distribution on Saturday – and was able to help more people than they anticipated.

The food pantry was established to provide local families in need with a physical location to receive assistance, and it is doing just that.

Earlier this week, volunteers at the pantry had a goal to pack and give out 25 boxes.

On Saturday, they handed out 41 boxes, and 12 new applications for help were also filled out.

The pantry plans to hold box distributions once a month.

The next one will be Saturday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at John Morris Road in Lumberton.
