JACKSON, Tenn.—One organization hosted free swimming lessons to spread awareness of minority children drownings in the U.S.
Also at the TR White Sportsplex, Swim 1922 educated kids and their parents on swimming techniques, CPR, and hygiene protocols.
This event was for children between the ages of 6 and 16.
Swim 1922 was created by Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. To address the truth that, according to the CDC, 10 kids drown daily and a high percent of Hispanic and African-American children don’t know how to swim.
“Our goal is to promote awareness of water safety and to hopefully decrease drowning rates and increase the children and parents comfortability in and around water, and to give them a little background information on how to save someone,” said Randa Hart, Chairperson, Swim 1922.
