Another local brewery is putting its foot down over unruly kids

Local News

Bog Iron Brewing follows in the footsteps of other breweries that have had to make similar statements.

Bog Iron Brewing in Norton implemented a policy that parties with children must keep them seated at the table while in Bog Iron’s taproom or beer garden.

The announcement, which was shared on social media at the end of last month, came after the brewery implemented a policy that children had to be kept within reach at all times.

“We put off implementing this as long as we could but posting the previous policy did almost nothing as we very often still had children simply running through the space, climbing on furniture, and almost every Monday morning, the landscaping rocks in our beer garden are thrown all over the place,” Bog Iron Brewing wrote in a post on Facebook.

In the announcement of the initial policy, the brewery affirmed that it loves serving families and tries to provide “as comfortable an environment as possible for everyone,” but said in its post that it had to implement this new policy after events that occurred the previous weekend.

“The policy is in place because, unfortunately, we have a small number of families that simply turn a blind eye (and ear) to their kids running around the place and we simply can’t have it any more,” Bog Iron Brewing wrote in a comment on its post.

Policies like this one have popped up at other area breweries.

Notch Brewing, with locations in Salem and Brighton, announced on social media in November that it would expand its “21+ after 6 p.m. rule” —  which was extended to 8 p.m. last month to accommodate warmer weather and longer days —  to seven days a week after previously implementing it only on weekends.

Proclamation Ale Company in Rhode Island had to issue a reminder similar to Bog Iron Brewing’s that its staff and games are “not meant to be their babysitters.”

“Our assumption was that the sort of things listed wouldn’t have had to be said,” Bog Iron Brewing said. “We were unfortunately wrong.”
