Allegan’s Bridgefest ushers in summer with fun, food, and festivities downtown

The city of Allegan unofficially kicked off summer Saturday with Bridgefest.

Held every second Saturday of June, the free event celebrates the city’s iconic 2nd Street Bridge.

The celebration is in tandem with a revitalization of Allegan’s downtown area, which city officials hope continues to build momentum throughout the year.

“We have a brand new downtown, a brand new roundabout leading into the downtown. And to just celebrate these accomplishments and have people turn out and support our businesses on a day like today, it just keeps driving that energy forward through the year,” said Parker Johnson, Assistant City Manager for Allegan.

Bridgefest has been held since 1983, minus a hiatus in the mid-90s before coming back in 2016, according to city officials.

Some highlights of Bridgefest include a splash pad, food trucks, live music, a Ferris wheel, bounce houses, and much more.
