ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) – CrystalRock Cathedral has fulfilled a long-time dream of wanting to start a No Cost Meals program for the children of Ardmore.
The program is held Monday through Friday for breakfast and lunch at the church. Breakfast is from 9 to 9:30a.m. and lunch is from 11 to 12 p.m.
“It’s just been our vision, you know,” Doug Brown, the church’s program organizer said, “the church’s for a long time and it’s just by the grace of God, the help of the community and the church body.”
Because of a tight budget, the church is partnering with the regional food bank of Oklahoma to get all of the food needed to make it possible. Right now, they’re serving shelf-stable foods and snack, but they hope to offer hot meals and groceries to families by the end of the summer.
On top of this, the church eventually wants to make this a year-long event, meaning they will need as much volunteer and community contribution they can get.
“We have a handful,” Brown said. “But, you know, we need several hands and feet in order to continue to do this.”
As an avid volunteer member her church, Lisa Anthony expressed how working on projects like this have shaped her into the person she is today.
“I know it’s changed my heart, the way I look at people,” Anthony said. “It changes how you would have looked at them before. God changes that. You see them in a whole new perspective.”
