CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – The Southeast Missouri Food Bank is launching a new mobile food pantry in response to food insecurity in Cape Girardeau County.
The food bank announced the new mobile food pantry will take place on the second Friday of each month at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau and it will be in the evening to better serve working families needing food assistance.
The first event is set for Friday, June 13 at 6:30 p.m.
In addition to the mobile food drive, volunteers at St. Andrew will be serving a free hot meal.
Organizers say the goal of the meal is to create both nourishment and a sense of community.
According to the food bank, food insecurity affects 15 percent of Cape Girardeau County residents.
