Healing House in Lafayette hosts summer fundraiser; nonprofit supports grieving kids

LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — The Acadiana nonprofit Healing House is gearing up for its key summer-long fundraiser. This organization provides crucial support for grieving children.

“So, Healing House is a safe place for children to grieve the death of a loved one. We supply support groups for families, especially for those who have experienced that tremendous loss,” Kim Thackston with Healing House said.

Healing House tailors its approach to each child’s unique grieving journey. They organize children into age groups and address specific types of loss, such as suicide, homicide, or long-term illness.

“So, grief is different for everyone. Everyone’s on their own grief journey. Everyone’s process is different. So, Healing House gets kids into different age groups, and into groups that perhaps deal with the type of loss: Suicide, homicide, perhaps a long-term illness,” Thackston explained.

Families seeking support can access Healing House’s services free of charge.

“All of our services are free of charge. Families can call us at 337-234-0443 or visit our website,” Thackston added.
