SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) — Food trucks have grown in popularity across Middle Tennessee. Now, Spring Hill leaders are working to help them out.
Spring Hill Mayor Matt Fitterer told News 2 that food trucks started gaining popularity around 2022 and the city started to get requests for more of them. Previously, Spring Hill regulations only allowed one food truck to operate in a given area.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen overhauled some zoning codes and ordinances, so now, two or more food trucks are allowed to create a sort of courtyard and allow residents to have multiple different dining experiences all in once place.
The change has been a long time in the making; ordinances now also provide clarity on where food truck operators are allowed to serve food.
Fitterer said that food trucks offer a unique dining experience and that the old regulations weren’t accommodating what residents wanted.
“Our rules just didn’t match what our customers — our citizens — were demanding,” Fritterer said. “So really, we were just trying to modernize the code a little bit and be responsive to where that industry has kind of matured.”
Fritterer wants small up-and-coming businesses to find a friend in the City of Spring Hill. He hopes the new rules will open opportunities for residents to try different eateries.
