OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The games of this year’s College World Series don’t get underway until Friday, but the menu is ready for the first pitch.
Executive Chef Katie Smith ran down the lineup for this year’s CWS stadium treats.
“Obviously, we have kept all of our fan favorites,” she said.
“Then our next burger is our branded 75th burger, the cubano… we have our Omaha steaks grilled burger, smoked pork,” she continued.
The burger even has the logo for the 75th anniversary of CWS branded onto the bun.
“So we had to work through a company that makes these brands, so it’s a whole piece. You literally hold it on the bun, and it sears that logo into it. So it’s a really hot branding iron that we gave the 75th logo to,” she explained.
Many of the classics are still on the menu, Smith continued. One cannot go to a baseball game without munching a hot dog.
This year, there are three new hot dogs on the menu, including the Big Island hot dog: an Omaha Steaks hot dog topped with a mango pineapple pico and drizzled with teriyaki ketchup.
And more items that will add to the heat of Omaha’s summer weather.
“Our spicy ranch that is made with our chocolate habanero sauce from volcanic peppers,” Smith said. “The thing with the hot stuff – everybody’s into that. I know well that’s just a trend going on right now, so we jumped on that wagon… if there’s a trend, you kind of got to go with it sometimes.”
This year’s home run treat is called the “You’re Killing Me, S’mores,” which references the timeless baseball movie, “The Sandlot.”
“We have Churro chips, it is marshmallow topping, chocolate chips, toasted marshmallows, and graham crust,” Smith said.
Smith said this year’s lineup shines a light on the diamond anniversary of the series here in Omaha, and as always, it’s all about fun.
“It’s all fun, we want to keep everything fun, and we wanted to keep things a little bit more midwestern, more classic this year,” she said.
