TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – Legacy girls soccer coach Chris Woodard held his annual soccer camp, and nearly 150 campers attend this year.
The World Cup will be held next year, with Texas one of the locations. Woodard discusses the impact it could have.
”Well, the fact that we’re hosting some games in Texas definitely helps, but it is going to have a huge impact -just the biggest event in the world, athletically. It only happens every four years, similar to the Olympics, so it’s a big deal. Maybe not as big in this country as in other countries around the world, but the fact that us, Mexico and Canada are hosting it will open some eyes and get some new people to the game. Let them experience the soccer way.”
Woodard’s camp volunteers are former players and college players who want to give back to help the younger generation..
“We’ve got a lot of girls and guys who need to get community service hours, for all the things they like to do. And excel in, then we’ve got former collegiate, collegiate players former players that are here. Helping giving back to the game and try to make a little summer money.”
