QUINCY, Ill. (KHQA) — The 150th annual Melrose Chapel Strawberry Festival took place in Quincy on Saturday afternoon.
From 3-7 pm anyone interested could purchase a variety of different strawberry deserts and treats.
There were also sandwiches, chips, drinks, and more to enjoy at Melrose Chapel and take to-go.
Half of the proceeds from the event go towards the church, while the other half are being donated to Horizon’s Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry.
Promotions Chairman J.T. Dozier says hungry customers were ready to go before the event even started.
“People came in line before we were open. We opened early because everyone’s ready to go, let’s just do it. So, people are excited about being here. Strawberries make things good. If this was the Lima Bean Festival, it would not quite be the same, but it’s the Strawberry Festival, and who doesn’t like strawberries,” Dozier said.
Dozier also says the event is a great way for the Melrose family to get together and share fellowship with each other and the community.
“Any time you can do a service with others for a good cause, it gives you that warm feeling. This is what we do. We’re serving up strawberries, we’re cooking things in the kitchen, we’re waiting on tables. It’s all work, but we’re doing it together for a good cause,” Dozier said.
