Local kids participate in ‘Youth Fishing Derby’

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Families were out at Bacon Creek Park for fun and fishing at the 29th Annual River-Cade Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 7.

The event gave kids ages 4 to 12 the chance to fish, and a chance to win a new bike in the River City Anglers Casting Contest.

Organizers say the event was a way to get kids outside to enjoy a fun day of fishing and the nice weather.

One young fisher, Jay Seals told KTIV what brought him out to the event.

“Normally I get bored really easily,“ said Seals, ”and normally just do the same things a lot. Then my mom told me there was a fishing tournament out at Bacon Creek, and I wanted to try something new, so I decided to come.”

About 200 kids were registered for the fishing derby.

Each child who registered received a fishing pole and a tackle box.
