Chase County Old School Development District and North Lyon County Veterans Memorial benefit from pair of car shows and related activities Saturday

While conditions around the area have been more conducive to boating in recent days, a pair of car shows in the KVOE listening area Saturday saw a very strong turnout.

First was the fifth annual Chase County Old School Development District car show in Cottonwood Falls.  The car show came after significant flooding across Chase County from Tuesday til this weekend, which did affect turnout slightly, with just over 30 vehicles attending, according to spokesperson Lee Anne Coester.  That said, she tells KVOE News they were thrilled with the turnout given the impacts to the local road network in recent days, noting there was a point earlier in the week where they didn’t think they would get to host any vehicles.
Begun in 2021 as solely a car show, the event has quickly grown over the years to also include an art market, children’s activities, live music, food and more.  Coester says the growth of the event likely has a lot to do with the atmosphere surrounding the Chase County Old School Development District, saying she believes they have created a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere that everyone wants to be a part of.
On top of the car show, the old school development district has been steadily increasing its number and variety of community events in recent years.  Coester says that trend is likely to continue as they are always looking for new and exciting opportunities to engage portions of the community previously untapped.
While cars were filling into Cottonwood Falls, individuals were filling into Bushong, specifically the North Lyon County Veterans Memorial for a fish fry and car show recognizing the memorial’s 10th anniversary. Festivities had to be postponed last month, but the schedule change didn’t seem to alter interest as organizer Dianne Bedner Smith reports roughly 300 people attended the activities.

She tells KVOE News this will go a long way in helping further work on the memorial, including the addition of a new museum that will be put into the old bank building in town.   She says the museum will include wardrobe displays, artifacts and Bushong history.

Bedner Smith believes the museum will be a unique offering to the community, which will help to drive interest in visiting.

Totals from both events are currently pending.
