Two JPS employees on leave following internal financial audit

Two Jackson Public Schools employees are on administrative leave after the school district said an internal audit found unauthorized and improper disbursements of funds totaling around $221,000.JPS said they took swift action and launched an investigation, placed the employees on leave, and implemented immediate safeguards to prevent further unauthorized actions. The district’s administration also self-reported the matter to the Office of the State Auditor for further review and guidance. Earl Burke, JPS chief finance and operations officer, said in a Friday news release from JPS, “These actions are unacceptable, and we are pursuing all necessary steps to correct the issue and prevent recurrence.”The district plans to seek the recovery of funds and hold those responsible accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
