Free summer meals available to kids at several sites in southern Indiana

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Free summer meals will be available to kids in southern Indiana this summer.

Several locations will be set up in New Albany from now until July 18.

Locations include the Floyd County Library, Parkview Rec Center, Galatain Baptist Church and several others.

All kids up to 18 years old can go to any of the locations from 12-12:45 p.m. to get a free lunch.

More than 1,000 locations are set up statewide as part of the 2025 Summer Food Service Program.

To find a meal site near you, or other food resources, click here for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Meals Site Finder. Officials said the site finder will be updated throughout the summer.

You can also call the USDA’s National Hunger Hotline at 1-866-3-HUNGRY (1-866-348-6479) or 1-877-8-HAMBRE (1-877-842-6273). You can also text “summer meals” or “verano” to 914-342-7744 to find a local meal site.

The Summer Food Service Program has been providing kids with free, nutritious meals and snacks over the summer break for nearly 50 years. The federal program is funded by the USDA and administered by the Indiana Department of Education. It’s designed to meet the needs of low-income children in areas that may have limited access to nutritious food.
