MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — This week, dozens of children were exposed to violence in Mobile County. Most children were just witnesses, like the kids inside Mobile’s Saenger Theatre on Sunday night.
Some are missing their loved one who died following the shooting at the children’s dance recital. Carl Williams III was shot inside the theater shortly after filming his daughter performing on stage. Some were the victims of the violence, like an unidentified 2-year-old boy who was shot in the face while in bed at an apartment on St. Stephens Road early Wednesday morning.
There are resources available to help children who experienced these traumatic events.

MCSO press release from 6/5/25:
On June 4, 2025, Mobile County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting incident at the St. Stephens Woods Apartments where a two year old was struck by gunfire. Preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting may be related to an ongoing feud between several people involved in gang relations. MCSO believes that the shooting of the two year old was in retaliation to another shooting that occurred on June 1, 2025, at 3321 Vestavia Street. The two year old not being the intended target, but another person who also lived in the home.
As MCSO Detectives were canvassing the area on Vestavia Street, several streets over from St. Stephens Woods Apartments, several neighbors reported multiple gunshots were heard at 3:45 am, after the two year old was shot. Witnesses stated they saw a black male, with short hair, wearing all black, firing shots in front of 3321 Vestavia Street and then fleeing on foot toward Wolf Ridge Road. MCSO Detectives and Crime scene unit, found 18 spent 9mm shell casings on the street in front of 3321 Vestavia Street. No resident was at the home at the time Detectives were canvassing area.
MCSO Detectives have interviewed several suspects and witnesses and are continuing to ask for help from Community. “If you see something then say something.” Says Sheriff Paul Burch. “We cannot do this alone, we need the help from those in the community. I am sick and tired of seeing innocent people being victims of these senseless acts of violence towards each other in these gangs”.
