Here’s what to know about Woodward Friends and Neighbors Day

The annual Woodward Friends and Neighbors Day returns with a full slate of activities.

“We have a day that’s completely packed full of events, from free activities for the kids” to car and tractor shows, live music, fireworks and more, said Christy Schuldt, with the Woodward Friends and Neighbors Day committee.

The festivities kick off on Friday, June 6 with a beef burger supper starting at 5 p.m. at Woodward Christian Church. The Little Mister and Miss Woodward Contest will be held at 6 p.m. in the plaza, followed by live music by Royce Johns from 7-10 p.m.

The festivities continue Saturday, June 7 with a 5K. Registration for the first annual 5K will be held from 7-7:30 a.m. at Balanced Fitness. The run/walk will start at 8 a.m. at the High Trestle Trailhead.

The flag will be raised at 9:45 a.m. at the fire station, and the parade will head down Main Street at 10 a.m.

Afternoon activities include inflatables, carnival games, Lions Club Lunch at the fire station, cake walk, live music, petting zoo, bingo and more.

The car show returns for the second year, with registration from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There is no entry fee, though Schuldt said they encourage participants to bring a non-perishable food item for the Woodward Community Food Pantry.

A tractor show returns this year, along with a dunk tank featuring business owners, teachers and city council members. The popular mechanical bull will also return along with a pie auction.

New activities this year include a kids party and glow-in-the-dark miniature golf. The kids party will kick off at 3:30 p.m. at the plaza with a variety of activities, including music, dancing, a dice game and more, followed by GLOW Golf.

Schuldt said all of the kids activities are free throughout the day, including face painting, inflatables, carnival games and more.

“We continue to work to keep it free for the community as much as possible. You don’t want to miss out on activities for the kids and making all these memories,” she added.

The day will wrap up with live music by Raspberry Roots starting at 6 p.m. in the plaza, followed by a fireworks show at 9:45 p.m.

A community church service will be held at 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 8 for the first time. Cup of Joy, a food truck from Madrid, will be on hand starting at 8 a.m.

Schuldt is looking forward to seeing Woodward Friends and Neighbors Day continue to grow.

“The committee and I are new to this event. We took over last year, so this is our second year hosting the event,” she said. “We’re super excited we’re able to grow it a bit and we have a lot of help from the community.”

She is thankful for the volunteers and sponsors who will help make it possible for the committee to host Woodward Friends and Neighbors Day for the community.

“It’s just a really fun-packed weekend,” Schuldt said.
