AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Church of Latter-Day Saints donated more than 1,000 pounds of butter and cheese to the High Plains Food Bank (HPFB) today.
The church dropped off the truckload of butter and cheese this morning.
The church says they want to help nourish our 14,000 households in need across the Panhandle.
The food bank says this donation comes at a time when students aren’t in school and may not have access to daily meals.
“School is also out and kids you know, a lot of kids don’t have access to free reduced lunches that they may have had before,” said Zack Wilson, executive director for HPFB. “It was a staple for them throughout the school year and now it’s not.”
This donation also helps HPFB as the organization continues to feel the impacts of the pandemic and increased prices.
“Ever since Covid hit, and came and went, it really changed the kind of landscape of not only income, but expenses. We’ve seen expenses really rocket sky-high there,” said Wilson.

HPFB is looking to reach $250,000 to help their “Fill the Gap” campaign.
